China’s smartphone giant Xiaomi unveiled the Mi Notebook Air laptops along with the Mi Redmi Pro on 2nd August at a special event in Beijing. Xiaomi unveiled 14.8mm thick laptop which is thinner than Apple’s 17mm thick MacBook Air.
Mi Notebook Air comes in two screen sizes: – 13.3-inch and 12.5-inch. While neither of these two fits the standard size for a workaholic laptop, but they could accomplish the ultra-portable demands of a user’s mobile lifestyle. The 13.3-inch model is lighter and thinner than Apple’s 13-inch MacBook Air and the 12.5-inch is thinner but a little heavier than Apple’s 11-inch MacBook Air.

13.3-inch MI Notebook Air specs
The 13.3-inch model comes with Windows 10, Intel Core i5-6200U processor (up to 2.7GHz) with the NVIDIA GeForce 940MX GPU (with 1GB GDDR5 RAM). There’s 8 GB of DDR4 RAM, 256 GB SSD SATA hard drive. There’s also a 40Wh battery that can charge up-to 50% in just half an hour via USB Type-C. Xiaomi is claiming that it can last up-to 9.5 hours. There’s also a backlit keyboard, dual AKG speakers which supports Dolby surround sound, two USB 3.0 ports, HDMI port, a 1 MP webcam and a stylish metal body. It weighs around 1.28 kg.
12.5-inch Mi Notebook Air specs
The 12.5-inch model comes with some lighter features, including Windows 10, Intel Core M3 CPU (with no dedicated GPU), 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB SSD SATA hard drive. There’s only one USB 3.0 port on the this model but you still get HDMI and dual AKG speakers which supports Dolby surround sound. The battery can last up-to 11.5 hours. It weighs around 1.07 kg.
Both comes in Full HD displays
Both the sizes of the Mi Notebook Air comes with Full HD displays (1920 x 1080p). That gives pixel density of 176 PPI (Pixels Per Inch) on the 12.5-inch model and 165 PPI on the 13.3-inch model. Comparatively the 13-inch MacBook Air has only 130 PPI and 142 PPI on the 11-inch MacBook Air which means you’re getting a better pixel dense display. Though we can’t comment on the quality of the Xiaomi panel now.
Mi Notebook Air Compatibility with Mi Band 2
Both variants of Mi Notebook can be unlocked using Mi band 2. Laptop’s Bluetooth v 4.1 allows this functionality and Xiaomi is boasting about this feature a lot.There are also two colour choices for both variants ,silver and gold. There are also various accessories likes leather sleeves, Microfiber Sleeves avaliable along with MI Notebook Air
According to their official website (mi.com/Chinese) price for the 13.3-inch Mi Notebook Air is 4,999 Yuan ($753) and 3,499 yuan ($527) for the 12.5-inch model. While there are some less impressive internals in the 12.5-inch model, you do get an additional two hours of battery life in it. These are pretty impressive prices and are not even the two-thirds the cost of Apple’s MacBook.
The pre-order of these devices has started from 2nd August for china. The Mi Notebook Air’s India launch also remains to be seen.
