On the occasion of Whatsapp 8th birthday, the stories feature update was officially launched for the users. It was an update to replace the text-only status feature. Instagram was already having this stories feature for sharing photo, video and text status. In Whatsapp the feature allows a person to share a status which can be viewed by other people existing in his or her contact list, you also get options to select and block persons from watching your status.

FIRST METHOD

Step 1:- Open Google Play Store and download ES File Explorer. You can use any file explorer even the Android file manager just the file explorer needs to have a feature to show hidden files.

Step 2:- Open your File explorer then enable the option to show hidden files.

Step 3:- Go to Whatsapp folder in the internal storage then open Whatsapp Media folder.

Step 4:- There find Statuses folder (.statuses) and open it.

Step 5:- In the statuses folder you can see all images of statuses updated in Whatsapp. Open them using any image browser. It will not show your name in the view list because you are viewing the stories outside the Whatsapp app.

This trick to see Whatsapp stories without showing your name in view list can fail sometimes, so it is better that you should know another alternative to it.

SECOND METHOD

In this method on how to view someones whatsapp status without letting them know, you are required to use the privacy option of Whatsapp to see Whatsapp stories without showing your name in view list.

Step 1:- Open your Whatsapp then go to the settings.

Step 2:- In the settings menu, click on Account.

Step 3:- Then go to Privacy.

Step 4:- In the privacy settings, disable or turn off “Read receipts”. Uncheck the option.

By doing this now you can see Whatsapp stories without showing your name in view list but by doing so you will also not be able to see viewers list for your stories, to combat that issue there is another alternative but for this, your phone should be rooted.

Note: In our testing, we have noticed that there is a catch in the above method. If you turn off "Read Receipts" after the person has posted the story and you view their story and after that turn the "Read Receipts " on after few minutes, the person will still see your name in the viewed list.

THIRD METHOD [FOR ROOTED DEVICES]

Step 1:- Install Xposed Module Whatsapp extension.

Step 2:- Activate this module and then reboot your phone before using it further.

Step 3:- After reboot open the module and check “turn off read receipts” option from the privacy preferences.

This method will allow you to see Whatsapp stories without showing your name in view list and you can also see your view list for the stories you will upload. For the proper working of Xposed Module Whatsapp extension, your phone should be rooted. If your device is not rooted then you can try out the above first and second method.
