Google always names android builds a sweet treat nickname that goes in alphabetical order. The last version was marshmallow, and now it’s time for an N treat. Folks threw around all forms of suggestions like Nutella and Neapolitan, however Google eventually went with Nougat, probably the foremost predictable alternative.

I’ll simply save you the Google search: Nougat is a family of sweets made with sugar or honey, roasted nuts, whipped egg whites, and sometimes contains chopped fruits. The consistency of Nougat is chewy, and it is used in a variety of candy bars and chocolates.
Along with the name announcement, Google disclosed the android Nougat logo and field statue on the Google campus. It’s not most appealing. The nougat logo is simply the bugdroid standing on 3 candy bars. Past android version logos were redesigned versions of the bugdroid to appear just like the treat. They were very fun, however this one? Not so much right?
While we have the name, the version number is still unknown. Android Marshmallow is 6.0, so Nougat will probably be 6.1 or maybe 7.0 . It will include features like Daydream VR, revamped notification etc.

Android Nougat will likely be made available to Nexus devices first within a month or two. All other phones will have to wait for the OEM to push the update. And in case of highly customized android which are used by giants like Samsung that process can take many months.
